Daelim Industrial Co. Ltd
Project T222

1st Bi-Annual Safety Performance Award (BASPA)

Thomson-East Coast Line T222 Project
Daelim Industrial Co. Ltd is awarded the contract for the Thomson-East Coast Line T222, for the building of the Outram Park Station.
Wanting to set a good direction and right foot for the project, the project management team proposed a Bi-Annual Safety Performance Award (BASPA) campaign, an initiative to show their gratitude and support to the staff and contractors who made a difference by contributing to the safe and successful project.
Into its first BASPA, Daelim invited JOSH Solutions to participate as a sponsor presenter on a safety topic, Work At Heights. In addition, Daelim had also invited another speaker from Bentz Jaz Singapore Pte Ltd to present another topic on Environmental Awareness.
Project Manager Mr. Kim Young Gyoo with the Opening Speech
Project Manager Mr. Kim Young Gyoo with the Opening Speech to kick off the BASPA event.
Mr. Kim shared his appreciation for the support from the various contractors, staff and from the officers of Land Transport Authority for holding this event to recognise the wonderful efforts of all parties involved in the project. Without the continuous efforts of every worker and staff, the project would not have been able to progress with good safety performances and records.
He further shared that although not everyone is recognised for their efforts in this event, he assured that the project team is aware of the efforts of many others, and encourage them to continue with their good safety practices, as the best reward for them is not just a prize they receive in this event, but that they get to go home safely after work, back to their families and loved ones.
He ends his speech by expressing his appreciation to all the workers again for their efforts and looks forward to all of them having a good celebration in this event.

Our Presenter, Gerald Tan, sharing on the safety topic of Working at Height Safely.
Gerald prepared a presentation with videos and pictures to share on the safe work practices for working at height, as well as some key basic information on the different types of protection that workers should be aware of to ensure they will be effectively protected while working at heights.
Some videos illustrated the mis-use of equipment, which is quite commonly noticed in many sites as unsafe work practices, and how they provide a false sense of safety to the workers.

Pictures and videos are definitely helpful in sharing key points, but a demonstration can also allow first hand understanding and appreciation of the knowledge to be shared with the workers, especially when you see it live in front of you!

Workers volunteered to try out adopting the correct method of donning and adjusting the harnesses
Well, a demonstration was done, but to allow the workers to understand, we managed to get 2 of them to volunteer to try out on the correct donning and adjustment of the full body harnesses after the demonstration. From the try-out, the workers are able to understand the common errors they make when adjusting the harness to fit.

At the end of the presentation, a short quiz was included to spur the workers, and to make the atmosphere more lively and engaging with the workers. Vouchers were prepared by Daelim as part of the quiz prizes to encourage the workers for their daring efforts to answer the questions.

The next presenter from Bentz Jaz Singapore, Ms Chai, shared on Environmental awareness, focusing on anti-dengue, vector control, and proper housekeeping in the workplace. Her sharing mainly focuses on the need to be aware for areas that may encourage breeding, and how we can avoid or remove the risks of breeding of the mosquitoes and rodents, and other animals that may be present or attracted by the poor disposal and handling of rubbish, in particular to food waste management and water ponding.
After which, a short quiz for the workers to answer where more vouchers are up for grabs for their attempts in getting the correct answers.
